THE CHALLENGE

Ever wonder how sustainable your life at work or home really is? Now you can get your sustainability score with this simple challenge. The questions are divided up into the four rules of the sustainability at Nike. Just answer them and you'll get an instant rating. You'll also be automatically entered in our prize drawing.

RULE 1 - Use less materials extracted from the earth's crust. Focus on renewable resources
I turn off my monitor when I leave my desk for an hour or more and when I go home.
I carpool or use public transportation to get to work.
I walk, cycle, skate, crawl or use an other way of unmotorized transport to get to work
The distance between my home and work in miles one way
I drive an economy car.
At home I buy green, renewable energy through my provider (solar, wind, water.)

When I buy a new lightbulb, I buy an energy saving lightbulb (compact florescent)
RULE 2 - Use substances that are in harmony with nature, not against it. Consider the long-term effects of what you produce
If I have to use batteries, I use rechargeable batteries, but not those that contain Cadmium (NiCad)
I return my used batteries for recycling
When I have a choice, I print black and white, rather than color
I accept a plastic bag at the employee store

RULE 3 - Take only from nature what can be restored. Give the earth time to replenish.
My most common printing format is:
This is how many sheets of paper I print, copy or fax in total on average per month
I print my e-mails:
I use a new paper bag to take out lunch from the cafeteria
I put all my paper waste in the paper recycling bin
I make use of scrap paper for taking notes
My average shower time
I make an effort to buy returnable packaging (E.g. bottles and cans that have a deposit)

RULE 4 - Use resources efficiently and play fair. We all have a role in this game - all six billion of us
I adopt a vegetarian diet without meat
When I shop for food, I:
I seek out and buy locally grown, in season, unprocessed food.
This is the number of times I volunteered at Nike in the last 6 months
I have a sustainability or corporate responsibility goal on my CFE
I compost my organic food scraps
I promise to increase my total sustainability points by the next time I take this challenge.
